This session is for individuals and line managers who want to understand how the NHS Leadership and Management Framework (LMF) applies to them and how it can support professional development, career progression and meaningful development conversations.

You’ll learn how the Framework is structured, how self-assessment and personal development planning work, and how to use the Framework to identify strengths, support growth and get the most from appraisal and development discussions.

• Understand the purpose and national context of the Leadership and Management Framework.
• Explain the structure of the Framework, including its standards, competencies and stages of practice.
• Understand the different expectations associated with leadership and management roles.
• Explore how the Framework can support your own professional development and career progression.
• Understand how line managers can use the Framework to support the development of their team members.
• Understand the self-assessment process and how it links to personal development planning and appraisal conversations.
• Share experiences, learning and questions with peers through facilitated discussion.
• Identify further support, learning opportunities and resources available through NHS Elect and national programmes.
